Set up Personal Access Token (PAT) authentication to connect Vinetegrate apps to your Filevine account
Before you can use VineMigrator®, VineConnect®, or other Vinetegrate apps, you need to connect them to your Filevine instance using Filevine's authentication system: Personal Access Token (PAT).
Important: API Keys Deprecated
As of May 2025, Filevine has deprecated API keys. If you previously used API keys, you'll need to migrate to Personal Access Tokens. The process is straightforward and outlined below.
What is a Personal Access Token?
A Personal Access Token (PAT) is a secure authentication method that grants Vinetegrate apps permission to access your Filevine data. The PAT is created within your Filevine organization and linked to a service account user with appropriate permissions.
Step-by-Step Setup
Follow these steps to create and configure your PAT:
Access the Advanced Menu — Log into your Filevine org and open the Advanced MenuEnable Integrations — Go to "Integrations" and activate the required service (VineConnect, VineMigrator®, VineCalc, etc.)Create Service Account — Navigate to "Service Accounts" and create a new account for each app you're connectingAccess Tokens — Go to "Users and Activity" → "Access Tokens" → "Personal Access Tokens"Create a Token — Click "Create Token" and give it a descriptive name (e.g., "VineMigrator®")Select User — Choose the service account user linked to this token (newly created or existing)Assign Scopes — Select appropriate permission scopes:Filevine API Access — Required for data accessWebHook API Access — Required for event-triggered automationsTip: In most cases, assign all scopes to take advantage of all features across all Vinetegrate appsFinalize — Click "Create" to generate the tokenCopy Token — Copy the token details (this will only be displayed once — save it securely!)Apply to Integration — Paste the token into your Vinetegrate app's authentication settings and select "Personal Access Token"You're all set! Your app is now connected to Filevine.
