  • This guide walks through how the Contacts Migrator works and how to use it effectively.

    Understanding Filevine's Contact Structure

Before diving into the Contacts Migrator, it's crucial to understand how Filevine structures contacts:

  • Contact Cards — Each contact has a customizable contact card made up of tabs and fields
  • Standard Fields — All contacts include a Contact Info tab with standard fields such as name, company, phone numbers, email addresses, and physical addresses
  • Custom Tabs & Fields — Additional tabs and fields can be created using Filevine's Contacts Setup Advanced tool
  • Contact Types — Contacts can have one or more contact types. Contact types control which custom fields appear on the contact card
  • Hashtags — Contacts can be tagged with hashtags to support searching and categorization
  • Understanding this structure helps ensure your data is mapped correctly during import and updates.
